Keswick Greta

9th December 2023

Lots of rain and snow melt pushing the rivers up today. First thing in the morning some already looked well up, not leaving much room for any rise. The rain started earlier than forecast but the Keswick Greta gauges were still going down (lots less snow in the north Lakes). Hopefully it would leave room for the rise that would surely come. It did. We put on exactly on the white line level (1.60 Riddings Wood) and it only rose moderately while we were on it. At dusk the graph says the level skyrocketed.  Five paddlers were out today in our party but well over 30 with York Canoe Club so the river got rather busy. We played on the usual waves, then went to the cafe in Threlkeld.
